5 PS4 Game Releases That Were Disappointing

The PS4 is awesome. You know it, we know it, and no one is questioning it. In fact, when it comes to console power and performance, the PS4 is in the top spot in today’s market— at least for now.

As cool as the PS4 is, not all of the games created for it live up to that awesomeness. If you’re shopping around for a new game to play, you probably want to know about all of the top titles. But what about the flops— the games that are just not worth the time it takes to download them or slide them into the disc slot? It’s worth knowing about those games as well, just so you don’t spend your hard-earned dollars on a dud that looks like a good deal. Here are five games which missed the boat, you should also note that only one of these titles is a PS4 exclusive.

  1. Tetris Ultimate

Tetris Ultimate

Talk about a waste of the PS4’s potential. Tetris Ultimate is almost laughable, mostly because of its unfounded “Ultimate” claim. The premise of classic Tetris is simple and streamlined, and there isn’t much you can do to improve on it. If you’re a true Tetris aficionado, you make like it; but chances are, you won’t be impressed. Download a free version of Tetris on your phone and have at it, but save the PS4 for cooler games.

  1. Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark

Transformers Rise of the Dark Spark

Let’s consider another PS4 game— “Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark.” There’s not much replay value here; in fact, there’s not much first-time play value. It’s a clearly delineated plot that goes from Point A to Point B without many choices or quest options. Even the team-switching element, though interesting, is a little haphazard and doesn’t really move the plot forward effectively. If you’ve got younger players at home who want some action without too much complexity, this could be a good starter game. Otherwise, skip it.

  1. The Amazing Spiderman 2

Unfortunately, “The Amazing Spiderman 2” doesn’t live up to its potential. The combat could have been so unique and fun, yet here it is simply bland and boring. The movement between battles is exciting, as you swing between buildings using your controllers’ right and left triggers. However, the plot is loosely tacked together and the entire game leaves you feeling unsatisfied.

  1. Thief

THIEF 6

“Thief” is a stealth game that seems to have taken a page from the Assassin’s Creed legend, at least where its hero’s outfit is concerned. Unfortunately, this game comes nowhere near the intricacy, grit, and beauty of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Simply put, it is a bland world in which a grouchy lead character moves through a stale plot. The game has its moments of greatness, but falls disappointingly short of its potential.

  1. Knack

Knack PS4

“Knack” is a bit of an oddity. It’s well designed, as far as the visuals go, but the storyline is barely more than a series of collection quests. The ritual of collecting and losing relics grows old quickly, and the cutscenes lack color and vitality. On top of those issues, the game is simply too tough. Even hardcore gamers find it difficult to move past the early levels, due to the insane level of dexterity necessary to accomplish specific feats. Where other games might spur players onward to overcome these obstacles, “Knack” doesn’t deliver enough of a reward to make the effort worthwhile.

My favourite gaming console is the PS4, of course, and in my spare time I love to write.
