Awesome PS4 Games coming in 2014

As a new console, the PS4 has already proven itself to be a major force in the world of video gaming courtesy of its fantastic launch line-up.  However, as 2014 draws closer an entirely new slew of wonderful titles are slated to hit store shelves, many of them being potential trend-setters.   Additionally, some of these upcoming games will actually push the PS4 much harder than anything currently available for it.  In other words, you can also expect some of these truly ground-breaking 2014 titles to perhaps even generate a significant industry buzz.  Here are some of our top picks…

Infamous: Second Son

Aside from having a great legacy behind it, the Infamous series has always been about unabashed fun and action in a sandbox environment.  With Infamous: Second Son developer Sucker Punch Studios is basically upping the ante and set to deliver a similar, yet even more dynamic and visually stimulating experience.  This title’s incredible visuals and unique style of open world brawling and parkour navigation is sure to be a big hit with PS4 owners.

Driveclub

Originally planned to be an early release or launch title, Driveclub had to be delayed until 2014 for developmental reasons.  Of course once the game is finally released it’s going to truly wow PS4 owners with its incredible graphics and gameplay.  However, perhaps the most interesting facet of Driveclub isn’t any of the aforementioned factors; instead its social features might very well end up being its biggest selling point.  According to the game’s developers, the goal is to create an entirely new type of socially connected racing title.

Daylight

There’s only a few things you need to know about the upcoming PS4 title “Daylight”.  First off, it’s a bona-fide survival horror title in the first person perspective, and secondly, the game also incorporates randomly generated environments in order to confuse the player and up the scare factor.  The thought of playing through a horror title multiple times and never encountering the same pathway twice is certainly an interesting concept, not to mention a potentially scary one as well.  Moreover, if the concept is implemented correctly, it could be open the door for other ground breaking titles to follow.

Destiny

If you’re a serious gamer chances are that you like Science Fiction, first-person shooters and the development studio, Bungie (which gave us the Halo series).  With their upcoming title, “Destiny”, they’re opening things up in a major way by melding together several disparate genres at once.  For instance, Destiny is in fact a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) in addition to being a graphically enhanced shooter; those facts alone should tickle the fancy of many gamers out there.  However, that’s not the end of the story; according the game’s development team, their goal is to create a world (or universe) that truly feels dynamic and “alive”.  Needless to say, if they follow through with their plans, this game will most likely end up being incredible.

Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn

Following some negative press from Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix decided to readdress things with an entirely new approach with a new team.  The result is Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn, an impressive-looking MMORPG which is being designed to cater directly to fans of the series.  Aside from an all-new engine, better gameplay and an updated user interface, the plan is to also supplement the game’s release with improved server support.  Additionally, this one’s packing an entirely new story as well, which should delight RPG fans.

The Order: 1886

The first thing most people notice about The Order: 1886 is its decidedly unique style, which combines modern steam punk tropes with that of old-school Victorian architecture and design.  Quite simply, this game takes place in an alternate history version of reality where the world is protected from monsters by a mysterious order of knights.  The game itself combines elements of action, adventure and stealth gameplay to produce a finished product that’s very appetizing as well as intriguing.  When you’re not winding your way through the conspiracy-laden story, you’ll be basking in the glow of The Order: 1886’s unique gameplay and visuals.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

There are two things which immediately make this game interesting; first off, it’s a bona-fide Metal Gear Solid title and two, it’s going to feature “Snake” (or Big Boss).  Sure, some of the newer Metal Gear games are great, but serious fans of the series have been asking for a title that expands into new directions while still being true to its roots – for all intents and purposes, MGSV: GZ seems poised to do just that.  However, unlike the sort of level design featured in past titles, this one will incorporate more open areas.  In fact, according to Konami, this game will feature a “true open world experience”, so you won’t just have one path to reach your objective(s), but perhaps several.  Simply put, this is the Metal Gear game that fans have been waiting for…

The Elder Scrolls Online

Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series is legendary for a reason – it’s one of the few found on a console (or any platform, for that matter) that actually allows the player to freely explore a massive open world environment.  Well, with the release of the Elder Scrolls Online coming in 2014, it would seem that they’re ready to add yet another exciting chapter to their company’s history.  As a Massively Multiplayer game, TESO will still be set in Tamriel, only this time 1000 years before the events that take place in TES:V: Skyrim.  In short, everything about this title looks amazing, from its graphics to new multiplayer mechanics and beyond.  Anyone who’s a fan of online gaming, RPG’s or open world exploration is probably going to fall head over heels in love with this title.

Watch Dogs

Much has been said and written about Ubisoft’s “Watch Dogs”.  Some have heralded it as a true “GTA killer” while others haven’t given it much attention at all.  The truth is that the game has an enormous amount of potential and will likely revolutionize 3rd person perspective sandboxes.  Aside from giving you free reign in a virtual city, WD is set to take personal and environmental interaction to a whole new level.  Pretty much everything can be hacked and the game’s developers spent a lot of time trying to make the map feel very dynamic as well.  For all intents and purposes, it would seem that Watch Dogs will be one of the better-looking and more feature-laden titles released for the PS4 in 2014.

Destiny looks like it’s going to be a great one. With Destiny having similarities to Halo it will sell out. Bungie caused the Xbox to have a lot of loyal consumer so this game might pull a lot of fans.
