With the release of the PS5, the PS4 is no longer the top console available from PlayStation. However, the console still boasts an impressive library of games that are still enjoyed by many today. The PS4 was released back in 2013 and has since accumulated a large number of games that are exclusive to the console. This has made many people opt to buy the Playstation Plus subscription, which gives you access to many classic PS4 games. Below, we will go through some of the top old-school PS4 games many still love to play.

Bloodborne

  • Release Date: March 24, 2015
  • Genre: Action RPG, Horror

First on this list is Bloodborne, a game made by the developers FromSoftware, who also created classics such as Dark Souls and their most recent success, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. They have built a reputation for themselves for creating games that are extraordinarily challenging yet extremely engaging to play. Bloodborne is no different; as a game released in 2015, it quickly became a favorite among gamers.

Although Bloodborne was released eight years ago, players are still finding details in the game for the first time, and the player base continues to be very active. One of the more interesting facts about Bloodborne is that the only version with a fixed framerate at 30fps is available solely on the PS4. Despite fans voicing their desire for a PS5 remaster or a port for PC, if you want to play this version, you will need a PS4. When it comes to old school video games for PS4, Bloodborne is undoubtedly one of the most popular.

God of War

  • Release Date: April 20, 2018
  • Genre: Action-Adventure

The next game on this list is God of War, a game developed by Santa Monica Studio that follows the story of Kratos, a character based on Greek and Norse mythology. In this game, god Baldur is the latest threat to Kratos, who must take up his arms to defend himself and his new home. The God of War franchise started in 2005 and has amassed a large fanbase by releasing subsequent games available to play across several PlayStations.

The God of War game, released in 2018, is an excellent example of a developer capable of bringing a hugely popular franchise back to life and releasing something that fans and gamers worldwide will love. Since its release, God of War has won three awards at the Game Awards, including the Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, and Best Action/Adventure Game. If you don’t want to buy a PS4 to play this game, don’t worry; it’s also playable on PS5 and PC, so everyone can jump straight into the action.

Ratchet and Clank

  • Release Date: April 12, 2016
  • Genre: Platformer, Action-Adventure

Ratchet and Clank is one of the most old-school games that still has fans today. The original game was released in 2005, and Insomniac Games decided to create a new version that told the story of how the robot and the Lombax first met. Despite many wondering if the game would be a flop like the film adaptation, it turned out to be a massive hit, becoming a classic PS4 game.

The game was such a success that it led to the development of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, which is exclusively available on PS5. One of the main reasons the Ratchet and Clank game released in 2016 was so popular was its tremendous replay value that had people coming back to enjoy it over and over again. This was mainly due to the game containing many hidden secrets you unveil with each playthrough. In addition to this, the ability to upgrade a huge range of weapons made it feel like a different game each time you played.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

  • Release Date: January 24, 2017
  • Genre: Survival Horror

The last game on this list is from the Resident Evil franchise, considered by many as having some of the best horror games ever created. The game we are talking about here, however, is Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, developed by Capcom and released in 2017. This game is slightly different from other Resident Evil games in that there are more survival elements, which many have said add to the increased playability of the game. The game is based in a swamp where an abandoned old house sits. You follow Ethan Winter’s journey as he unearths the terrors of the Baker family. You can now also play the game using a PlayStation VR headset to immerse yourself in the nightmare.
