When you decide to splurge on a really good pro gaming headset the most important thing of course is sound quality. Sure, the other features are also of particular concern, but the main event (as they say) is definitely what the thing sounds like when it’s wrapped around your ears. Simply put, the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 Surround Gaming Headset (for PS4) definitely delivers the goods.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about this somewhat pricey pair of phones ($199) is the fact that it does in fact incorporate multiple speakers in each earpiece. In other words, where other designs tend to feature one (or two at the most) speakers on each side of your head to reproduce the entire audio spectrum, the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 SS utilizes four. That’s right; each earphone has 4 little speakers inside of it, which allows the unit to pull off some amazing 3D effects in addition to providing deeper bass and crisper highs. The cumulative effect of this particular aural arrangement means that you tend to really feel as though you’re right there in the middle of the onscreen action or enveloped in the ambient sounds of faraway fantastic worlds.
Moreover, it’s tough to find any headset that’s capable of delivering an experience that’s comparable to sitting in a living room that’s equipped with 5.1 surround sound. Nevertheless, this particular unit does a fantastic job of tricking your ears into believing that you’re encased in full spectrum sound. Moreover, as it’s equipped with a 12 ft. cable you have plenty of slack to work with as well. The unit itself is fairly standard-looking (black on black), removable microphone boom, padded earmuffs, independent chat and game controls – all the stuff you would expect to find on a quality headset.
All in all, the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 SS headset is a great headset, even if it is still a bit on the pricey side. However, the features of this amazing audio solution more than make up for its sticker shock – you’re not likely to find a headset which is capable of providing a more engrossing simulated 5.1 SS experience than what you have here with this premium Mad Catz product.
