All of the important PS4 Things to Come Out of This Year’s E3 event

This year’s E3 event (2014), held June 10-12 in the Los Angeles convention center, has (so far) been a wonderful showing for many of the entertainment industry’s top companies.   Of course, it was a particularly thrilling experience for PS4 owners and Sony fans, which were treated to so many amazing developments, reveals and releases that it’s almost too hard to believe.  We’re not just talking about great games here either, but all sorts of honest-to-goodness hardware and technology teases which were impressive enough to make your head spin.  Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

Destiny + the PS4 bundle deal

Needless to say, if you ever doubted that Bungie wouldn’t be able to deliver the goods you are definitely going to eat your words because their latest major undertaking, “Destiny” looks like it is going to rock our collective worlds.  To further sweeten the release, there’s also going to be a special PS4 console bundle (a stylish arctic white model) that’s been specifically prepared for Destiny.  Now, onto the game itself…

Destiny + the PS4 bundle deal

For those unaware, Destiny is pretty much an evolution of the same FPS gameplay we’re all intimately familiar with by now.   What makes it different however is that it is an MMO with a decidedly open world design.  However, we’re not just talking about one world here either, but worlds…that’s right, we are entering plural territory here.  It seems as though Bungie has not only upped the ante with regards to graphics and gameplay, but now also size and scale, with perhaps millions soon tuning in online to play along and explore the planets of Destiny.  Whether or not they’ve done the impossible here and created the next great, incredibly deep franchise, we do know for sure that this game will be one of the first new IP’s to emerge which pushes the PS4’s performance capabilities further.  Moreover, if that weren’t enough, PS4 owners will apparently be entitled to special content that other platforms won’t have access to.

GTA V

GTA V

Let’s face it, deep down we all knew that Grand Theft Auto 5 was going to be coming to the PS4 at some point, it was just a matter of time.  Perhaps as atonement for making us wait and also mercilessly teasing everyone claiming that “it wouldn’t be on next-gen consoles”, we finally have confirmation of what many of us were expecting to hear at some point.  However, along with this news comes additional information which hints at “special perks” for PS4 owners.  They remain altogether tight-lipped about what any of this means, only saying that there will definitely be “across the board graphical improvements”.  Well, regardless, we’re just glad they decided to finally do the right thing…

Have you ever thought to yourself “I’d like to play that game in the room upstairs but I don’t want to lug my console around”?  If so, that’s exactly what the upcoming PlayStation TV attachment allows you to do.  It acts as a sort of second screen enabling device and what’s even better – it’s also going to facilitate PlayStation Now service, so you’ll be able to access Sony’s back catalog of PS1 – PS3 titles as well.

PlayStation Now

PlayStation Now

Speaking of PlayStation Now, the game streaming service is going to become active in the US and Canada staring July 31st.  If you’re based in Europe, sadly there’s still no news available as to when it will be made available…

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End

Even though many didn’t think we’d see an Uncharted release at this year’s E3 it appears that they were proven wrong.  Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End seeks to give fans exactly what they want, save for the talk of this being the final installment of the series, of course (but we’ll believe that when we see it).  As expected, the main improvement here is in the graphics / visuals department, needless to say, everything looks beyond spectacular.

Infamous: First Light

Infamous First Light

Building upon their success with Second Son, Infamous: First Light sees you assuming the role of a female hero, Abigail “Fetch” Walker.  In short, the core gameplay seems to remain largely the same with lots of open world goodness.  However, it should be noted that PS4 owners who buy both games will also be entitled to certain unnamed special incentives.

Batman: Arkham Knight

Batman Arkham Knight

Taking the basic formulas which were popularized and perfected in previous Batman releases, Batman: Arkham Knight seeks to add even more graphical prowess and yes, vehicular driving to the mix.  In short, it looks like they’ve done it again – created yet another amazing installment for the series.

The Order: 1886

The Order 1886

There were further reveals of The Order: 1886 at this year’s E3 as well, with special emphasis placed on the game’s combat mechanics.  To put it bluntly, the game looks fantastic and artfully blends together lots of different tropes including werewolves alongside steampunk aesthetics.  What other game offers gamers a glimpse of an alternate history Victorian-era-ish London (replete with half blood monsters, no less)?

Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4

Expanding upon successes in design with Far Cry 3, the 4th installment of the series seeks to add even more activities as well as great co-operative multiplayer roaming across open world terrains.  Moreover, things have been beefed up in the graphical department as well.  This game looks like it will definitely satiate your FPS bloodlust.

LittleBigPlanet 3

LittleBigPlanet 3

As one of the more visible and popular Sony game franchises, LittleBigPlanet has been due for another release and it’s now safe to say that LBP3 is going to be awesome indeed.  To put it bluntly, they’ve taken the basic model and improved upon it, adding increased forms of interaction along with significantly improved graphics.  This is the game that LittleBigPlanet fans and PS4 owners have been waiting for.

Bloodborne

Bloodborne

The demented developers that brought us Dark Souls revealed their next-gen project at E3 as well, “Bloodborne”.  Currently we don’t know exactly what sort of direction the game is going to take or even how the gameplay works (not to mention the difficulty).  What we do know is that it is dark, gothic, creepy and graphically enhanced.
