PS4 Game Releases: August 2015

Let’s face facts; This summer hasn’t been the best for video games as a whole. A slow season and big game cancellations, like the new Silent Hill, has left gamers hungry and wanting more than just your average RPG. Well, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. August is shaping up to be a good month for new releases and it shows promise for what is to come in the fall and winter.

Gauntlet: Slayer Edition

Gauntlet Slayer Edition
Let’s start off with the release of Gauntlet: Slayer Edition. The original was pretty great, but this re-release is even better. It’s been enhanced for next gen gaming and offers co-op options. Not only can you play co-op with your friends in your living room, but there is also an online co-op interface that allows you to team up with players around the world. It’s set to release on August 11th and is just as bloody and violent as the original. You will be able to play as four distinct characters and the levels can be played through in order or can be randomized for campaign style battles.

Everybody’s Gone to Rapture

Everybody's Gone to Rapture
The same day Gauntlet releases a new game will hit the scene. Not much is known about it, but I’m personally very excited about this particular game. Everybody’s Gone to Rapture is an open world game where you will play characters trying to deal with the end of the world. Sounds like the usual post-apocalyptic game, right? Wrong. The Chinese Room is the studio bringing us this masterpiece. They are responsible for the gorgeous game, Dear Esther, and Everybody’s Gone to Rapture is just as beautiful. It’s set in the fictional English countryside and is decision-based like Fable. If you’re looking for pure scenery porn, this is your game.

Madden 16

Madden 16 will be released on August 25th and as usual, everyone is incredibly excited about it. Not much has changed and not a lot of information is available. But what do we really need to know? It’s the new Madden game (There have been 16 of them so far, if you don’t know what they are about yet, then it’s clearly not the game franchise for you.) The graphics are most likely a little sharper and the interface has probably been enhanced a little more.

Until Dawn

Until Dawn PS4 Horror
A new horror game preview is going to be released the same day as Madden and will most likely be overshadowed by the giant. The game is called Until Dawn and seems like it’s either going to be really good or absolutely awful. A few screen caps have been released and the graphics look pretty good. Hayden Panettiere is providing her voice in this game that throws you head first into a creepy mountain town. We all know that’s going to end well.

Until Dawn is another decision-based game and depending on those decisions, the game has several different routes. It seems to be following in the footsteps of The Walking Dead game franchise in terms of its decision-making focus and the way those decisions are supposed to pan out. Supermassive Games is the studio producing it, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m really hoping it’s good.

Dishonored: Definitive Edition

Dishonored Definitive Edition
The last big announcement for August is Dishonored: Definitive Edition. For those of you who have been wanting to play this game but haven’t gotten around to it, wait and pick up the Definitive Edition. You’re gonna get a lot more bang for your buck. Not only is it enhanced for the new gaming systems but you get a ton of add-on content that includes the Brigmore Witches, Dunwall City Trials and the Knife of Dunwall. It’s definitely worth checking out for the people who hold this stealth game near and dear to their hearts as well as people getting it for the first time. No solid date is given for this release, but it is listed as being released sometime in August.

A few more small games will be released and a preview for Disney Infinity 3.0. Overall, August is looking a bit more hopeful than the last half of the summer and seems to be setting up the rest of the year for success. However, if these games let you down, feel free to get Goat Simulator which will be available August 11th!
