Well, it appears to be time to investigate some of the latest rumors that have surfaced with regards to the PS4. This time however, it’s not all lollipops and roses, I’m afraid. Yes, we have some good news, and what may be bad news for some people, to contend with.  Let’s start with the bad news first, and get that out of the way.

One of the latest rumors has it that the PS4, or Orbis, could in fact be one of the first Playstation consoles to do away with backwards compatibility.  Though this should be categorized as gossip at this stage, anything is possible at this point given how little information has leaked out or been handed directly to the public.  Doing away with support for the impressive Playstation library of games seems like a terrible idea on its face, but if the rumors are true, perhaps it’s an attempt to bring focus to the next generation of games and the capabilities of the next console?  Likewise, this might also reveal that Sony is planning on supporting the PS3 for longer than we expected, allowing it to pick up the slack left by the vacuum of the PS4 (Orbis).

Now that we have gotten that out of the way, it’s time for the juicy tidbits and rumors.  We have great news for the more impatient and eager among us, game developers have recently been receiving development kits for the PS4.  This is great news because it means that 1.) An official release date announcement is just around the corner, and 2.) We might soon get a peek at any launch titles that are coming our way.  Likewise, this latest bit of information definitely confirms the existence of a basic PS4 build, which means that we’ll soon know exactly what kind of hardware they’ll be using and for what purposes.  Word on the street has it that the definitive version of the dev kit will be released by the summer of 2013.

Apparently there has already been a disclosure meeting with representatives in the US, where the specific details and capabilities of the Orbis (PS4) were discussed.  There’s also been talk about the PS4’s APU (accelerated processing unit), which is an integral part of a system that’s being prepped to be able to handle 3D-enabled games in 1080p at a smooth 60 fps with absolutely no issues.

When is the official announcement dropping?  Well, according to certain sources which will remain nameless (for their protection), we can expect to know something official before the next E3 event….oh the suspense.

Made sure to buy a backwards compatible ps3 last gen. Thought it was important, never used it. Rather have Sony focusing its resources on new content.

that’s interesting its none to surprising how ever i suspect that was the same way it happened before the ps3 got released in 2007 but that’s definitely (PROOF) that the PS4 is set for release by cristmas of next your if not then i’d say february or march of 2014 gotta wait and see if SONY is willing to let the information slip out and blow there cover remains to be seen.
