Forestry 2017 Review

Trees can be our friend, or they can be a roadblock to a development community from being built. That is where Forestry comes into play. This is a game that allows you to put the power of cutting down trees in your hands. I am somewhat of a fan when it comes to simulation games, so I went out and purchased the game thinking it would be well worth the money. I was wrong in a lot of regards. This game first has graphics that remind me of what the PS2 looked like. That is the first indication I should have tried to get a refund.

After you get past the bad graphics and the constant pop-ups that will make you want to gouge your eyes out, there is the horrid game play you must contend with. You are a lumberjack with one mission cut down trees. This sounds easy and you wonder how can it go wrong. First, you have a chainsaw and a horse, (I guess they though an ax was just way to primitive.) so let’s review so far, bad graphics, horrid music, pop ups, one horse, one chainsaw and a lumberjack. Once you master cutting the tree down the correct way and yes there is a correct way to cut the tree down. You get your horse to drag it to a point where it just disappears into thin air. Of course, that how the real lumberjacks do it. Eventually you are given the chance to use more sophisticated equipment, but unless you want to waste your time trying to maneuver one of these monstrosities, you can just stick with the horse.

The controls is clunky at best, there is no real storytelling to the game or even a tutorial to help you figure out what you are supposed to be doing. This was the second thing that I noticed when I began to play and thought I had overlooked the whole concept. Unfortunately, I was wrong as there just is no meaning to the game. Nothing with this game makes sense and it is a complete waste of resources for the developer that put it out, they should have waited a little longer and tried a touch harder to master the concept.

The music is another area where you will want to rid yourself of a sense as it is one of the worst soundtracks I have heard on a game and even when you go with the chainsaw, the music that is played for this is just as bad. No matter how you look at it, if you are old enough to listen and understand music, you will wish for you to be stricken deaf. Prepare to spend a lot of time with the sound off as it is just retched. I try to see the good in all games, but the truth of the matter is that there nothing good about this game or what it does. It should be put in the same landfill with the copies of E.T for the Atari. If you don’t get this reference, ask a person that experienced this disaster.
