Dual Protagonist in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Fans of the Assassin’s Creed series are no doubt excited for this month’s release of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, especially since the game will feature dual protagonists that players can freely switch between during gameplay. This is the first time an Assassin’s Creed game has featured multiple playable protagonists, and though it’s a new concept for the series, it’s an important one in terms of both the gameplay and storytelling experience of the game.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate follows twin assassins Jacob and Evie Frye in 1868 London just after the Industrial Revolution. The twins, who were both raised as assassins, are determined to overthrow Templar control of London. The ability to switch between Jacob and Evie gives players the opportunity to experience the story of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate from two different sides. Jacob is described as hot-headed while Evie is known to rely more on her intellect and stealth.

What’s interesting about Syndicate’s approach in using dual protagonists is the storyline is impacted by the choices made by either character. This means that if you’re playing as Jacob, the actions you take will have consequences that will show up in some way later on in the game. Though we’re not sure what this looks like or how it will play out just yet, the narrative and gameplay possibilities of this game created by its dual playable protagonists greatly increase its replay value just as much as its initial appeal to longtime fans of the series.

The game features new travelling systems, such as carriages, which can serve as the setting of some of the game’s smaller fights, and a rope launcher that will allow players to zip-line across building tops and grapple to the tops of buildings from the ground.

Ubisoft, the game’s developer, aims to have a successful launch free of the troubles that plagued the launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity. The game is set to release for Playstation 4 on October 23.
