A Look at all of the PS4 games out next month (May, 2014)

Reeling from several months of releases, May (2014) is set to be a particularly noteworthy month for PS4 gamers.  There’s a little bit of something for everyone headed our way, in fact.  Action, horror, platforming, sports, and of course, lots of sleek-looking role-playing goodness to tease and tantalize.  Furthermore, later on in the month one of the more highly-anticipated games of the year will be dropping, Ubisoft’s sandbox du jour, “Watch Dogs”.   For all intents and purposes, it looks like May is going to be one of the stronger earlier months of the year for next-gen game releases.  Here’s a detailed list of what’s coming your way in the very near future…

Outlast: Whistleblower – May 6, 2014

Outlast

First up we have some impending DLC, “Outlast: Whistleblower”, which is an addition to the 2013 psychological horror game “Outlast”, from Red Barrels.  This content will be especially enlightening for fans of the creepy title, as it is to be a prequel of sorts that takes place prior to the events of the main game itself.   You assume the role of Waylon Park, a software engineer turned corporate whistleblower that ends up in the very asylum where all the “bad stuff” originally went down.  Regardless of whether or not you’re into the dark and mysterious vibe, “Whistleblower” is poised to utilize the same basic “run and hide” mechanic as its’ forerunner, which means more of the same kind of terrifying encounters that we’re already used to.  Throughout the course of completing its story you will learn why the outbreak occurred in the first place as well.

Stick it to The Man! – May 6, 2014

stickit_screen2

“Stick it to the Man!” is a downloadable title originally made available for PS3, Vita, Wii U and PC gamers that’s now finding its way onto the PS4.  This completely crazy, yet amazingly fun platformer possesses an eccentric and lovable art style and the sort of story that’s just completely insane on its face.  You play as “Ray”, a hard hat tester who wakes up one day to find an enormous pink “spaghetti arm” protruding out of his cranium.  Naturally, this new addition provides Ray with superpowers, including the ability to read minds and influence the world around him in unseen ways.  Quickly finding himself in trouble, you have to help Ray set things right by navigating through the bizarre 2D world via enhanced side-scrolling visuals and mechanics.

MLB 14: The Show – May 6, 2014

Mlb 14 the Show

Already on PS3 and Vita, “MLB 14: The Show” is finally findings its way onto Sony’s 8th gen machine come May 6th.  Simply put, this is an all-around solid and great baseball title that any sports fan and PS4 owner should feel glad to have in their collection.  Graphically speaking, there’s quite a bit of realism here, in terms of characters models, movements and physics.  Just looking at the overall presentation alone, this is a slick-looking game indeed.

Bound by Flame – May 9, 2014

Bound by Flame ps4

Taking things in an entirely different direction, “Bound by Flame” is set to take the concept of karmic choices to a whole new level inside of a RPG format.  Your character is possessed by a demon, you have the choice to either take their powers offered, which will make you become evil, or opt to avoid that, instead turning your attention toward skill development.  At first glance, Bound by Flame looks like a visually more impactful Dark Souls II or something, albeit more forgiving and perhaps a bit more hack-and-slash oriented.

Transistor – May 20, 2014

“Transistor” is a science fiction-oriented RPG that features an isometric third person perspective.  What makes the game unique of course is the gameplay, which offers both real-time battle as well as a “planning mode”, allowing the player to pre-design a series of moves or attacks.   What results is a clean story-driven narrative inside of a distinctive geometrically-based gameplay formula that’s both intriguing as well as addictive.

Wolfenstein: The New Order – May 20, 2014

Wolfenstein The New Order

If you’re in need of some good old-fashioned FPS action, look no further than “Wolfenstein: The New Order”.  Developer MachineGames is attempting to repackage the same sort of formula that made the original Wolfenstein 3D such a big hit, but in the context of modern graphics and gameplay.

Watch Dogs – May 27, 2014

Last but certainly not least, we have “Watch Dogs”, which is a title the gaming community has eagerly been anticipating since its release was delayed.  In short, it will fuse together various mechanics from well-known sandboxes into one neat, graphically impressive package.  This includes parkour action, combat, hacking, driving, infiltration and more.  Many even seem to have a feeling that this game might even be able to directly compete with the GTA series.
