Over 20 PS4 Accessories to Consider

Like cleaners in an office, PS4 accessories are undoubtedly the unsung heroes of that piece of kit in the corner of your living room you affectionately refer to as a PS4. Here’s a look at over 20 accessories for PS4 currently available. This list isn’t based on cost and so there is a wide range of prices across these items – there’s always the January sales if needs be… Oh, and you may find some products are easier to find depending on which country you’re from, but who doesn’t like a challenge?

Squid Grips

Squid Grips

The simple ideas are the best, no? The idea is simple, but I’m unsure why the particular name was chosen – Squid Grips are essentially stickers for your DualShock 4 Controller which will prevent your hands slipping whilst playing. And, let’s face it, sweaty palms are an occupational hazard for the typical gamer – I’m not judging, simply stating facts. These have moisture-wicking technology and everything and promise superior grip and comfort; they’re available for around $15 or £12.

Thrustmaster T300 RS steering wheel

Thrustmaster T300 RS steering wheel

Driving-game fan? Got yourself a steering wheel yet? Why not? If you’re still looking to buy, then consider saving up for the Thrustmaster T300 RS steering wheel. At around £250 it’s as pricey as a crap second hand car (which may or may not have its own steering wheel), but bloody hell it’s amazing. If you’re a driving nut then the improvement this will make to your gaming experience will ensure you feel you’ve got value for money; it’s a force feedback wheel and so will get you just about as close to the real experience as it’s possible to get. Can’t say fairer than that. What’s more, with GT Sport coming soon, it’s a good time to invest. For more options check out the PS4 Steering Wheel guide.

M9T 2TB hard drive

M9T 2TB hard driv

It’s safe to say that the storage space on the PS4 is, well, a bit naff. At 500GB, some of which you can’t even use, most of you will use that up within your first dozen or less game purchases. There are, however, multiple guides on how to replace the hard drive which won’t void your warranty. Regarding which one you should go for, for best fit and available space, the Samsung M9T 2TB hard drive is hard to beat; available for around £80. Read the guide on how to upgrade PS4 hard drive.

The Turtle Beach Elite 800 Headset

The Turtle Beach Elite 800 headset

The Turtle Beach Elite 800 headset is without doubt a high-end product. Given that it’ll set you back around £250 (for a pair of headphones? My dad used to shout at me for spending 45p on a comic), it had better come packed with features, yes? Well, the active noise cancellation is great, as is surround sound, programmable audio presets for specific games and a ‘dynamic chat boost’ so that you can hear people over the noise of whatever game you’re playing. It’s quality, so for the serious gamer will be a worthwhile investment. For more options check out the PS4 Headset guide.

PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset

PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset

Another headset which comes in at ever so slightly less than the one just mentioned, is the PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset which will set you back around £65. It still gives you surround sound, a clear internal microphone, some pre-set sound modes which are optimised for games, movies and music and guess what? It’s even foldable. Who knew that was even desirable until I mentioned it? For more options check out the PS4 Headset guide.

A PlayStation Plus Subscription

A PlayStation Plus subscription

A PlayStation Plus subscription. Does this count as an accessory? Well, it’s in the list now so yes. What benefits does it offer? Well, when you drill down it might well be considered vital – the chance to play online multiplayer; 24 PS4 games a year at no extra charge; exclusive discounts at the PS store; access to Share Play which allows your friends to play your games even if they don’t own it (if you’re feeling generous, I’d say); and an extra 10GB of cloud storage for your games. Prices start at around £3 a month so it’s well worth investigating.

PS4 Camera

PS4 camera

Although many games don’t actually support the PS4 camera, many people have decided that the investment of around £45 is worthwhile, hence the inclusion of it in this list. With face and voice recognition and the novelty of the Playroom it’s a bit of fun which will no doubt appeal to some more than others.

Sony PlayStation DualShock 4 Charging Station

Sony PlayStation DualShock 4 Charging Station

It’s simply not worth the risk of your controller dying on you when you’re about to score the winning goal in Rocket League, so a Charging Dock of some description will be necessary. You could certainly do worse than buying the official version from Sony, available for a reasonable £25. It charges two controllers at once (smarty pants) and comes in the same nice shiny gloss as your PS4 itself so it’ll even match your console. How thoughtful, Sony. For more options check out the PS4 Chargining Station guide.

The Gaems Vanguard Personal Gaming Environment

The Gaems Vanguard Personal Gaming Environment

The Gaems Vanguard Personal Gaming Environment sounds marginally more exciting than it actually is, but it’s good nonetheless. It’s like a backpack, but at $350 thankfully offers more than storage space. There’s a remote control, a hard shell case to protect your console on the go, there are accessory storage bags, an HDMI cable and even a power supply. Sounds like (expensive) genius to me.

BigBen Carrying Case

BigBen Carrying Case

A cheaper (and more clearly-named alternative) is the BigBen Carrying Case. Its main pocket will hold your console and games, the front pocket will accommodate 2 controllers and other accessories and, well, the strap is adjustable. Okay, not as flash as the Gaems product but at around a tenner can you really complain?

Ortz PS4 Vertical Stand

Ortz PS4 Vertical Stand

You gamers all seem to prefer your consoles standing up instead of lying down (steady on, I’m not getting personal) – something to do with space saving. There are, therefore, a multitude of vertical stands available. Why not go for the Ortz PS4 Vertical Stand? It even comes with a cooling fan; looking after your PS4 whilst also saving a bit of space. It’s available for around $30.

If you want a more basic option i.e. one that doesn’t have a cooling fan, there is, of course, always the official Sony product to go for. It does what it suggests it will, and can be bought for under £20. Bargain!

Official Universal Media Remote for PS4

Official Universal Media Remote for PS4

£40 might seem a bit steep for a remote control (or ‘changer’ as my aforementioned father would call it), but when you’re talking about the Official Universal Media Remote for PS4, suddenly it seems worth the cash. It’ll give you the ability to control up to 4 devices – PS4, set-top box, TV and audio receiver – and you can directly access your PS4’s home and power buttons without a controller. Lazy or convenient? You decide.

Venom USB Dual Play and Charge cable

venom USB Dual Play and Charge cable

You have a dilemma. You need to charge your controller but you simply can’t stop playing for even an hour (what’s wrong with you?) Never fear, the solution’s at hand – a Venom USB Dual Play and Charge cable. Yes, this nifty little product will allow you to charge your controller whilst still finishing whatever quest or puzzle or fight or race you’re currently embarked upon. Such convenience must come at a hefty price, no? Well, no actually, if you can find one it should cost you no more than a fiver.

Evil Controller – A customized Dualshock 4

Evil Controllers ps4

So you’ve unwrapped your brand new PS4 and taken all the kit out of the box. You have one controller so can get stuck in straight away. Fabulous. Who doesn’t want another controller though? Well, since you’re going to make the purchase, why not go for as unique a controller as you can? Black is boooring after all. Evil Controllers offer a vast range of customised controllers ensuring you’ll find one to suit your mood. Just don’t get carried away; one extra is probably enough.

The PlayStation App

The PlayStation App

Here’s one which won’t break your piggy bank. The PlayStation App is free! It might not be the most exciting on this list, but it’s functional. You can manage your game downloads, control your PS4 remotely and, usefully, use the on-screen keyboard, and you can chat and share pictures or audio with the Messenger service. Fair enough, plain but functional and did I say free?

Elgato Game Capture HD60

Elgato Game Capture HD60

If you want to make gaming videos – to become the next YouTube sensation perhaps which is, after all, big business – then look no further than the Elgato Game Capture HD60. It’s around £140 but will record your playing at high resolution and frame rate ensuring top quality results. Perhaps the main consideration to bear in mind is that it has no on-board memory so everything must be recorded onto your computer.

HORI Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai

HORI Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai

If arcade sticks are your thing – and if they are then you’ll know what I’m talking about here – it appears that it really has to be the HORI Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai, certainly for the price of around £90. Bit of a mouthful, but it gives you a good quality finish, nice long cable (steady) and, most importantly, a good level of responsiveness. For more options check out the PS4 Arcade Stick guide.

Bean Bag

bean bag

Comfort is important, right? Is your couch good enough? If so, I’m happy for you. But if not, have you considered a gaming bean bag? Could just be a bean bag, but it’s called a gaming bean bag so there must be something to it. They look dead comfy and prices vary so I’d shop around for one of these bad boys. I’m sure you’ll think of something to convince the other half it’s a vital purchase. For more options check out the PS4 Gaming Chair guide.

Sharkk Backlit Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard

Sharkk Backlit Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard

If the lack of keyboard annoys you and typing via the free App isn’t good enough for you, then how about the Sharkk Backlit Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard? It’s apparently the top-rated Bluetooth keyboard out there, and so is probably quite good at its job i.e. allowing you to type stuff. If you manage to find one for sale it’ll be around $25. For more options check out the PS4 Keyboard guide.

Hori’s Tactical Assault Commander 4 Keyboard and Mouse

Hori's Tactical Assault Commander 4 keyboard and mouse

The Tactical Assault Commander 4 keyboard and mouse is a new product from Hori which is designed for those who enjoy FPS or tactical based games. It looks impressive and operates very well. This accessory is sure to bring a new dimension to your PS4 gaming experience. You should also note that is it compatible with the PS3. For more options check out the PS4 Keyboard and PS4 Mouse guides.

So there you go – plenty of choice for you to boost your PS4 gaming experiences. Enjoy!
