Upcoming PSVR Games I Cannot Wait to Play and Experience

PlayStation Virtual Reality is finally here, and I can’t possibly be happier. This is going to be the future of gaming, and we get to experience it right out of the gate! From racing to horror, VR is so perfect for the video game medium, and outside of the launch titles, there are already plenty of games coming out that are looking to take full advantage of what PSVR can do. The following is a list of the top games that I’m looking forward to finally getting my hands on (in no particular order, of course)…

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul

I love scary games, so anything that’s going to give me goosebumps while playing on PSVR is going to be a good time. Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul looks to be one of the creepiest titles slated for release on PSVR, so it’s definitely going to be a must-play. Exploring a possessed house in first person while a nasty poltergeist makes my day miserable may not sound like a great way to spend an afternoon, but the fact that I can take the headset off at any time makes it okay, right?

Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR

Since we know that VR lends itself perfectly to driving games, why wouldn’t flying be the same? The X-Wing is probably the most iconic vehicle in all of sci-fi, so I can’t think of a more perfect way to test out just how well PSVR handles the unfriendly skies. That’s right, Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR will let us do exactly what the title suggests, but instead of flying your fighter in-atmosphere like in the core Battlefront experience, you’ll be surrounded by massive cruisers and battleships as you take your ship into space. X-Wing VR Mission is only one mission, but we hope that it’ll be a precursor to something a little more substantial. Still, even the one little mission you get to play here is incredible, and it’ll definitely be worth picking up.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

I’ve always been a Resident Evil fan, so being able to experience it in first person via a virtual reality headset is something I’m incredibly excited about. While recent RE games have been a little on the “actiony” side, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard looks to return the franchise to its survival horror roots by making weapons and ammo a little more sparse than you may be used to. Puzzle solving will still play a big role, though, and I’m hyped to see how VR plays into it.

Tekken 7

For anyone who has never played a Tekken game, all you need to know is that A: it’s a fighter with a cast of incredibly unique characters, and B: it’s one of the most iconic franchises in fighting game history. We don’t know exactly how a fighting game is going to work on PSVR, but we’re excited to find out. As of writing this, there are two main theories: One is that the game will be played in first person, which is unlikely at best considering the fact that a combat system like Tekken just wouldn’t translate well to a first person view. The second theory is that you’ll just view the arena like a spectator would from the sidelines, which would give you an up close and personal view of the action. This wouldn’t be VR in the sense that you would think, but seeing a fighting game from this new perspective would definitely be immersive and may set a precedent for fighters in the future.

Gran Turismo Sport

So this one is both a PS4 game and a PSVR game, which is really cool. Not only does the title look fantastic without a VR headset, but pairing PSVR with a racing wheel is going to turn my couch into the driver’s seat of the world’s fastest and sexiest cars, and what is there not to love about that? The immersion offered by PSVR is going to take this virtual driving experience to heights never before possible. I can see myself spending a lot of time with Gran Turismo Sport once it finally drops.

Ark: Survival Evolved VR

Ark: Survival Evolved is a unique MMO reminiscent of Turok thanks to the presence of terrifying dinosaurs and powerful weapons. Your goal is in the title itself- you have to survive at any cost by building a base and defending it against other players and AI controlled dinosaurs. The twist is that you can tame dinosaurs and use them in your conquests. How does VR tie into all this? We don’t exactly know how it’s going to work, but since the game is played in first person, we can see the game not changing much from the normal experience to the VR experience… but imagine seeing a world like Ark’s by physically looking around at it. How amazing will that be?
