A look at all of the PS4 Games Due Out in the Next Couple of Months

There have been some really interesting PS4 titles released this year, most of them being somewhat off the beaten path in terms of concept or style of execution.  Well, in July and August there are some more shooters, sports, action and strategy games headed our way, including a few offerings that should delight those who might be looking for more conventional 3D gameplay.  Moreover, because the general numbers of releases for both months is rather light, we’ve decided to smash them together for good measure.  Anyway, without further ado here’s what you have to soon look forward to…

Sniper Elite III – July 1

Sniper Elite III - July 1
Combining stealth-based gameplay with a slightly more non-linear experience, “Sniper Elite III” pretty much brings standard third person gameplay that’s very much “sniper-centric” to the forefront.  Building upon the successes of its predecessors, this title actually incorporates some awesome new additions however, which includes a number of stealth upgrades.  Takedowns, totally silent kills and even ultra-violent bullet cam sequences (which go in depth to show how your shots actually affect enemy soldiers’ bodies) are included here as well.

Developer Rebellion Oxford has really made it a point to place more emphasis on gamer choices here, with the player having the option to approach objectives from multiple angles, etc.  As its name implies, the core experience here has to do with sniper-based gameplay, which is something the game series obviously does quite well.  There’s even a leveling system included which ranks you based on performance and records real-time statistics. All in all, it’s an action-packed experience that’s different enough to keep things interesting yet while remaining somewhat familiar.

Futuridium EP Deluxe – July

Futuridium EP Deluxe
Keeping in line with all the retro-themed modern arcade titles which have been released (in ample amounts this year), “Futuridium EP Deluxe ” brings exactly the kind of shoot ‘em up action that you’re craving.  Armed with an exciting and forceful sci-fi-ish soundtrack and a distinctive 3D into 2D sort of visual mechanic, Futuridium sees you piloting a ship through a range of environmental hazards at a brisk pace while blasting key items and trying to remain intact.  If this sounds a bit par for the course, take the time to check out the PS4/ Vita gameplay trailer (found here).

Hohokum – August 12

Hohokum - August 12

Developers Honeyslug and SCE Santa Monica Studio have really created something of an enigma with “Hohokum”, a game which seems to defy conventional rules and boundaries altogether.  Of course, this is also a title that’s decidedly 2D in character, but don’t let that fool you – they’ve managed to include some very interesting non-standard mechanics here though.  You assume the role of a serpent creature that can interact with the environment in various ways.  While the gameplay is actually non-linear, there are some objectives to take care of though.  For all intents and purposes, this isn’t your standard offering at all; in fact, you’re not particularly meant to do much more than mess about and enjoy the soundtrack.  While that might seem boring at first, it actually isn’t at all, which is something you’ll discover after playing it for just a few minutes.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare – August 19

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare

Next, we have a shooter / strategy offering that’s anything but run-of-the-mill – “Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare”.  In essence, it is a colorful and zany multiplayer shooter, but what makes it great is its 3D mechanics and obvious borrowed elements from the Call of Duty denizens.  Aside from its combat-based mechanics there are also challenges to complete as well which allows you to progress.  In addition to this there are a slew of interesting modes to choose from.

Madden NFL 15 – August 26

Madden NFL 15

Building up on its long legacy of annualized releases, “Madden”, the football-centric (American) franchise brings great sports action to the table along with a few new tricks.  According to current developer notes, this edition will incorporate even more immersive controls than their previous efforts.  Additionally, it looks like they might have upped the ante in the graphics department a bit as well.

Minecraft – August

Minecraft PS4
Last, but certainly not least, we have “Minecraft”, developed by Mojang and

4J Studios (which has done work on the console versions), which is finally making its way onto Sony’s new flagship platform.  PS4 owners will be able to dig, build and explore to their heart’s content with others online or in one of three other modes.  They are, of course: Survival (where the goal is to simply stay alive), Creative (a free-flying mode where damage isn’t a concern, only building and exploration) and Adventure (which is obviously geared toward those who want to explore and experience user-created maps and adventures).   Of course, if you want or need a more traditional experience you can always go after the Ender Dragon.
