The Future of eSports: 4 PS4 Games That Could Dominate Tournaments

Back in June, few gaming sectors were receiving more attention than eSports at the annual E3 convention. For anyone interested in competitive gaming, there were plenty of games announcements with huge eSports potential. To ensure you don’t miss out, we’ve compiled a list of the most promising PS4 games that you may want to look into.

FIFA 18

Let’s start with the most obvious eSports game of them all: FIFA 18. For as long as eSports have existed, FIFA has led the competitive sports genre, and it looks like this new instalment will help to keep the series alive at future events. This new release will feature Official league competitions, FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) Champions Cups and the FIFA Interactive Club World Cup. These new and improved elements are sure to make competing in FIFA easier and more enjoyable than ever, especially since the developers are promising multi-week playoffs, grand finals and single globe champion tournaments. There’s new information being released all the time, so we recommend keeping up to date on the official FIFA website.

Release Date: 29 September 2017

Call of Duty: WWII

Like FIFA, Call of Duty has remained a staple at eSports tournaments since the beginning, even earning its own tournament known as the Call of Duty World League (CWL Champs). The franchise and the tournaments surrounding it have amassed such a following that some fans even place wagers on their favourite players and teams at online operators such as Master Mazuma, where players can find out about the latest meta game and form guides for CoD and other titles. So, there’s no doubt that this instalment set in WWII will garner a huge following.

Dragonball FighterZ

In early September, the closed beta for Dragonball FighterZ opened for PS4 players who had registered earlier in the year. Within just a few hours it was already being hailed as one of the best anime fighters ever. At the beginning of each match, players choose up to three characters from the enormous cast of Dragon Ball before battling against their enemies in a traditional 2D arena. Character switching looks really great, while gameplay is receiving a lot of complimentary reviews already. As long as the game isn’t too simplistic, there’s a good chance Dragonball FighterZ could end up being a leading fighting game at many upcoming fighting tournaments.

Release Date: February 2018

The Crew 2

For years, arcade racer enthusiasts have been begging for a game with a competitive edge that will represent their favourite genre at eSports competitions. Sure, there are plenty of heavy-duty racing games out there, but it’s just not the same. Fortunately, there’s a good chance that The Crew 2 could be the game arcade racers want. That is, as long as it’s more Rainbow Six Siege than For Honor. This seems pretty likely as Ubisoft promises the game will allow players to conquer the American motorsports world as they travel the land and sea.

Release Date: 16 March 2018

With each year, competitive gaming gains more popularity as the games become ever more extraordinary. Hopefully, future gaming developers will realise the potential behind creating eSports-worthy titles and we’ll have even more games to choose from.
