The Best PS4 Games of 2015

From New Years Day to New Years Eve, gamers all over the world speculate about what the “Game of the Year” will be. The PS4 saw so many good titles drop in 2015, though, that all of them really deserve a mention. Whether you’re getting a PS4 for Christmas or simply haven’t had the time to keep up with the PlayStation 4’s newest releases, this guide should fill you in about what you’ve been missing this year (in no particular order).

Until Dawn

until dawn 2
Horror fans were treated to a brand new franchise with the release of Until Dawn. The unique style of gameplay shows exactly what the PS4 can do within a new sub-genre. Graphically pleasing combined with many terrifying moments, this title isn’t just an award winner, but has many waiting for the next release.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture

Everybody's Gone To The Rapture™ - Press Demo_20150810221140

Isn’t it great when a developer treads new grounds in attempt to bring something totally new? Well, nothing is further from the truth when it comes to Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. Its compelling and mysterious story combined with the stunning English country scenery are what make this game another award winner.

Dying Light

Dying Light

The zombie craze has definitely died down a little bit, but zombie games just keep getting better. Dying Light is equal parts terrifying and action-packed, and it’s definitely worth picking up if you’re a fan of surviving against all odds or of zombies or of open-world action RPGs featuring parkour and insanely fun weapons.

Batman: Arkham Knight

Batman Arkham Knights
As a huge Batman fanboy, this game could do no wrong. And while even I admit that the big twist in the story was a little “meh,” I had so much fun flying and driving around Gotham City, taking on iconic villains and using ingenious gadgets, that I really could care less about any of Arkham Knight‘s faults. Have I played it since I beat the story? Nope. But was it totally worth every penny of the $60 I payed for it? Absolutely.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4

There aren’t enough words to describe how great this game is. One of the most addicting single-player experiences available to gamers right now, Fallout 4 throws you in an open world with so many choices and paths to take that one of the biggest things people are talking about right now is never getting to the game’s main hub simply because of how much optional stuff there is to do in the world of FO4. If you like single player experiences, you’re cheating yourself by not experiencing this one.

Rocket League

Rocketleague_WinterGames_3
One of the few games in recent memory to actually have me jumping up and down while playing, Rocket League is a game where cars play soccer.. and it’s awesome. Very simple at its core but painstakingly difficult to master, this is a game that I’ll be playing for a very long time. If you’ve never heard of it, check out some YouTube videos and have your wallet ready.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain
As a newcomer to a franchise which is almost as old as console gaming itself, MGSV impressed the hell out of me. It’s stealth action at its finest, with countless ways to infiltrate the various bases found in the two massive free-roam environments that the game offers. The story is a little weird and some of the gameplay elements are… unique, but that’s how MGS does things, and it’s been a blast to play ever since I picked it up in September.

Mortal Kombat X

Mortal Kombat X 2
I’ve been playing MK since the Sega Genesis, and this direct sequel to MK9 (my favorite title in the franchise) was so much fun to play. Tight controls, a slew of original characters, beautiful graphics… If you would have shown this game to ten-year-old me, I would have fainted. If you like fighting games or the MK mythology, definitely pick up X.

Bloodborne

Bloodborne 01
It’s deep, engaging, and incredibly challenging, and you’ll find yourself playing for hours and hours before realizing it’s 3am. Bloodborne is a very dark and twisted tale that you’ll find ultimately very satisfying to master, and if you enjoyed Demon’s or Dark Souls, you’ll feel right at home here.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt 2
The Witcher features incredibly deep and mature themes, so if it’s story you’re after, you can’t go wrong here. It’s high fantasy, so the world is full of vicious monsters and mind-bending magic as well as good old fashioned swordplay. The open world is massive, and exploring is just as much fun as fighting through it. If I did have to pick a GOTY, this would be very near the top of the list.

Just Cause 3

Just Cause 3
2015 was apparently the year of “3’s”, and Just Cause is a prime example of how to take everything already good about your first two games and making it over the top insanely crazy for the third installment. A good question to ask about JC3 is not what you can do, but what you can’t do. Wing suits, grappling hooks, unlimited C4, rampant destruction, fighter jets… This is what a baby would look like if the parents were GTA and a warehouse full of steroids, and it just doesn’t get old…

Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Black_Ops_3_Specialist_Spectre_1439290637
I’ll admit that I hadn’t really been a fan of CoD since Modern Warfare 2, but Blops 3 definitely got me hooked again. Treyarch has shown that they really care about the franchise, and while they could have gotten away with selling a barebones game, they packed so much depth and content into this shooter that it’s really the only FPS (Fallout and Dying Light don’t count) that I would recommend above all others to any PS4 gamer looking for a good shooter.
