The Best External Hard Drives To Use With the PS4

The PS4 has finally caught up with their Xbox rival and introduced the update 4.50 also known as Sasuke to the Playstation 4, which amongst a few other features also supports an external hard drive, so gamers can store even more games than the console’s limit.

Using a 3.0 USB cable, you can now connect a hard drive as small as 250GB and as large as 8TB. It is a long awaited addition to Sony’s feature list and is allowing people to access and store even more games with ease. But the big questions is, what are the best external hard drives to use with the Sasuke update? We don’t believe there’s an absolute set favorite as it all depends on your needs and intentions. All the same we’re going to give you a few options so you can pick according to your desires. And don’t you worry, each one is compatible with the 3.0 USB cable.

Seagate Backup Plus Fast

On of the biggest things to look for is speed, considering the hard drive is taking on the fast paced gaming world. And the Seagate Backup Plus Fast is probably the best you can get for speed. It offers 4TB of space, which will pretty much cover you forever. Offering basically double what a regular hard drive can offer, though also double the size as a result, the Backup Fast Plus is a force to be reckoned with. However, it does come with a hefty price tag.

The WD My Passport

The WD My Passport is also always a safe choice. With the Ultra 1 (offering 1TB), Ultra 2 (offering 2TB) and the 4TB option as well, My Passport has a lot of choice for any gamer looking to increase their gaming library. Trustworthy and secure, with auto-backup and password protection the WD has always been a top seller for it’s capacity in the past. It is a simple set-up device and some high memory to offer. Depending on the TB size you choose, the prices may vary, but it is not the cheapest option in the world.

Toshiba 1TB Canvio Basics

Next up is the remarkably low priced Toshiba 1TB Canvio Basics. A few less TB to offer than some others but the price tag and the ease of this cheeky number make it well worth consideration. If you have a few games in the works that you want to transfer to an external hard drive or just need larger than medium amount of extra storage space, the Canvio Basics is worth a try. Portable as can be, the Toshiba 1TB Canvio Basics also has 5GB per second transfer speeds to boot.

Seagate Expansion 2TB Portable USB HDD

The Seagate Expansion 2TB Portable USB HDD is the next on our watch list for the best hard drives for the PS4. Also incredibly reasonably priced for what it offers, this 2TB hard drive is extremely highly rated and, like the Canvio Basics, it also boasts 5GB per second transfer speeds. It is also available in 3TB and 4TB sizes if you’re really looking to store a million games.

Seagate Expansion 5TB

We also have another Seagate number on the cards with the well priced Seagate Expansion 5TB. This is if you’re looking for some serious storage size. The hard drive is large and stores a substantial amount. However, it is lacking in transfer speed compared to the others we have looked at so far. It’s hardly a handy, portable drive but for a serious gamer, looking to leave those deleting days behind them, this drive is worth the splash. A great price for it’s capability and storage size, this one has been highly praised by many.

And then there is the Samsung P3 Portable hard drive. available at storage capacities between 1TB and 4TB. Well received and also one of the thinnest 4TB hard drives out there, the Samsung P3 features auto backup, a secure drive, and a three-year warranty. With a quick install guide and plenty of gaming storage, the P3 is a great choice for an extended hard drive for the PS4.

Samsung T3 Portable SSD

Samsung have outdone themselves as ever with another winner for the list. The incredibly fast-paced Samsung T3 Portable SSD puts on a brilliant performance. The speeds on an average HDD are nothing compared to the T3. Although it does not offer as much space as some others on our list, coming in three versions – 250GB, 1TB and 2TB – the hard drive still has enough space for some serious gaming or just as a spill over storage for the PS4. Although it is definitely on the pricey side for its capacity, it is a drive that performs with ease and precision, as Samsung often manages.

And there we have a list of the some of the finer choices for an extended hard drive to go with the latest 4.50 version of the Playstation 4. Choose wisely and we hope this list helped give you some ideas of what might be best for you and your gaming intentions.
