Are We Edging Closer to a PS5 Announcement?

To not talk about a PlayStation 5 would be somewhat ridiculous. In fact, the majority of PS4 owners would find it hard to read that the PS4 would be Sony’s last console – that would never read well, right? Of course, many fans aren’t ready to hear about such news of a PS5 announcement, since they want to get their money’s worth from their PS4 – and this is more than understandable. However, given the fast pace of technology changes, it seems fair that we all contemplate a future announcement of a PS5 console. In this article with ponder over such a scenario. Let’s begin.

Every console has a start and end, that’s the nature of console gaming and technology – after all, memory cards were once the way in which game saves made logical sense – haven’t times changed? (yet I love that nostalgic memory). With the PS4 releasing back in 15 November 2013, the console has enjoyed amazing success since and we are now heading towards the 4th year of the PS4’s reign. What’s more, Sony has introduced virtual reality and the PS4 Pro console, both of which are sure to extend the console’s product cycle.

With talk around a global internet delivered by satellites, the concept is in place: you’ll one day connect to advancing technology, such as with Intel’s recent introduction of their i9 processors, opposed to owning it. This might be hard to imagine, but it’s an idea that seems more than plausible. However, we aren’t there yet, and it doesn’t appear as though we’ll reach such a milestone within the timeframe of a new generation of consoles. What’s more, there could be issues with lag-response in regards to such satellite tech, since the connection has to translate between earth and a satellite in space – although, I’m sure this is an issue that will need to be resolved given the fact that gamers require a low-lag response.

The previous idea that PC gaming would someday conquer console gaming has proven to be nothing more than redundant. Clearly, PC gamers do have the luxury to keep ahead in terms of hardware performance, but even Steam hasn’t achieved the universal needs of a connected community. What do I mean by this, player one owns a high-end system, player two owns a budget system. immediately, player one has a strong advantage – thus, the competitive edge isn’t just down to the gamer’s capabilities, but also the system they are playing on. Of course, you could argue that the PS4 and the PS4 Pro also create an unfair advantage, although, it’s minute in the grand scheme of things and certainly isn’t comparable to the budget PC vs. powerhouse PC concept.

Sony’s success with the PlayStation 4 isn’t down to luck. They’ve attracted amazing attraction for a number of key reasons, and they will need to apply a similar strategy for a PS5 gaming console. Clearly, timing is key. They will need to monitor what the competition is considering. Consider it a chess move. Nintendo’s approach has already simplified Sony’s considerations. Microsoft’s Xbox One hasn’t enjoyed anywhere near the same success as the PS4 and the Xbox One X hasn’t resolved those issues too – some question whether Microsoft will venture into releasing another console in the future. This is such an area that Sony is sure to be interested in. After all, you’ll want to match and beat what a competitor has to deliver in various areas – including pricing, power, performance, games and more.

What’s more, there are other big players who are capable of entering the video game market, namely, Google. If rumors are to be believed, Project Yeti appears to be Google’s answer to the very idea of internet-accessed games. The cloud idea. Surely, this is the biggest threat to Sony, partly because it’s an unknown future market. Thus, should Sony hang back and attempt to delve into a Netflix styled concept, from where hardware isn’t the dictator, but the platform is. It’s possible. I still believe the universal aspect is a real attraction for console gamers and connecting to a platform would mean the hardware could probably be selected by the user; creating an unfair advantage. I feel as though you could imagine it like this; there’s a racing track, all start from the same point, but one has a Nissan Micra, and the other, a Ferrari – clearly, there’s only one winner (unless the driver is drunk – turtle and the hare concept).

Sony will currently be investigating a variety of options whilst also monitoring the competition. Since Nintendo’s bold move is now behind us, things are just a little clearer. Microsoft’s attempts also deliver a statement – one that can feed Sony’s future ideas.

Shawn Layden just announced there will be no hardware reveals at E3 2018. So, simple, NO.

when , back in august, i had announced the ps4 pro would be out before the end of the year, everybody laughed, saying it was impossible, etc etc . 4 months later, it was out.

the ps4 is heading to 90 million units sold, today. sure, it will reach the 120-140 million mark. but these next 30-40 million buyers, will be all the ‘curious ‘, and the ones already owning a different system, that will be wanting to get a cheap ps4, along several 2nd hand triple A exclusive titles, like uncharted, tlou, crash bandicoot(timed), horizon, etc etc, for the cheapest as possible.

in another words, sony will be making little to no money, out of those people. and they don’t need that. theyneed people who can spend 600 bucks on a new system and 2-3 games + some accessories.

let’s be smart: why would sony wait 2 or 3 extra years, until 2021, just to make 30 or 40 extra million sales, at 199 or 149, with most titles bought 2nd hand at 5-10 bucks…?

why waiting all that time without having a new system to sell, for almost 3 years ?

    absolutely stupid.

these new consoles are ultra easy to develop. no more 5years on r&d for just one cpu. no, you pick normal parts, assemble, test, it’s ready.
with current cpus revisions, a bunch of memory, 2tb of drive and an average graphic chip, sony can easily make a system with 15-20tflops. wich will be more than enough for a 4k60fps hdr with A LOT of quality and AA processibg.
if that system can run god of war, with textures 4 timesbigger and crisper, 4 times more polygons, m4 times more and bettet particle effectz, 4 times less aliasing, 4 times more enemies, 4 times better facial animation and look, worlds 4 times bigger, with much more stuff going on at the same time on screen,

    well,
that will be powerful enough. no need to use titanx cards for that.

this current generation and the global economy allows people to easily spend tons of cash on new tablets, smartphones, etc etc. it would be stupid to say no to that.

sony could even team up with epic, and release a special fortinite version on ps4, with plenty of free stuff exclusive to ps5 gamers.

they could secure a gta6…. a new call of duty….or any other big game.

could the ps5 be announced this E3 ? why not. will sony wait, wait, wait, 3 or 4 years, before releasing the ps5, only to see gamers going to xbox1x or switch, vecause they want fresh stuff, and the ps4 is ‘already’ 6 years old ? for sure, no.

they could announce this E3, and release it hext nov 2019. makes so much sense. the hype would be phenomenal. if they announced backwards compatibility with the ps4, they would destroy the planet !

we must FORGET generations no longer last 10-12 years. no.6 years for a console, today, is already too much. devs need more and more powerful tools.

if horizon zero dawn and u charted 4 were already destroying the ps4, we can be sure God of war team has 200% maxed out the ps4. the level of quality, scope, everything, is so gigantic, all the ps4 resources are being used.

they need new tools. faster tools. now. yesterday. and of course, they already have them, via devkits.

no longer it takes 6 months to draw a triangle. today, with x86 architecture everyone masters, maxing out a system is 10 times faster than 1 or 2 decadws ago.

no longer devs need 5 or 6 games to finally max out the system. Santa monica only made 1 title for ps4, and they destroyed the system. if they started making a new game, they would manage to get what, 5% extra processing power ? not enough.

some 3rd party games will start relea SD ibg on both xbox1 x, and it will be the best version.
sony don’t want that to becone a trend ‘hey, you should buy an x1x, it’s the best version’.
no. sony wants to remain firsy. for that, they need to have THE BEST hardware.

so mark my words : ps5 release next nov 2019, with announcement next E3.. or Fev2019, like they did on ps4.

the ps5 will be on shelves sooner than later.

with sony’s current #1 position, they can afford to secure the vest contracts and games.
another thing: MM’s DREAMS will be a ps5 launch title. no longer they are going to release it on ps4, specially with games like fortnite, assas creeds, tomb raiders, pubG and a few other big titles like destiny, overwatxh, diable, etc etc, gamers are just too busy playing those games now, Dreams would barely sell 1 million copies, if not less…

but being a ps5 launch title, it woyld ve a different story.

ok guys, call me idiot, bookmark this page and comment, and in a few months, come back here, and say ‘you were right’ 😉

LOL, why is there an Intel i9 X-Series attached to this article?? That class of CPU would cost a LOT more by itself, than Sony could dream of selling the PS5 for. Next gen will be powered by Ryzen…and likely the lower-end, 1st gen Ryzen, not Ryzen 2.

As for PS5 features…if it can’t do native 4K/60fps with EVERY GAME, day-1….they need not bother. The “Pro” is a bad joke, and Sony can’t afford to be booed off the stage again.

That was a good read bro honestly… but i sincerely doubt it… I think it’ll be a 2019 announcement and a 2020 release date.. there’s only 2 more years to this generation and with games ALREADY confirmed for 2019 like Days gone as consumers we know our PS4 has value going into next year so 2019 is the EARLIEST we’ll get an announcement ESPECIALLY with Shawn Layden yesterday confirming they wont be talking about any new hardware talk this E3 so 2019 is the earlierst we’ll hear of a potential PS5 and tbh thats fine. We have confirmed games like TLoU 2 and Death Stranding coming, so once again its nothing but adding value to PS4 through these last few years…

PS5 will maybe have Back Compat so that’ll make it easy for the next gen’s transition but i sincerelllyyyyyy doubtttt a 2019 release is on the cards.. Nov 2020 is the most likely… Plus it’s a little not right to compare it to the Pro release, That’s an iterative console that serves the purpose of bolstering the PS4 family but to launch a new console you need as much hype and build up to it as possible and for that these incredible games still to come need to release first.
