There’s no denying that the PS4, and really all of the “next-gen” consoles, are quite spectacular. Graphics and gaming capabilities are significantly improved, with the result that games are bigger and more beautiful than ever before, and that’s not even touching on all of the capabilities of the PS4 beyond gaming. But for old-school gamers, there’s one drawback of the constant advancement and improvement of console play: the risk that arcade-style games will fall by the wayside. This isn’t to say that there aren’t popular arcade-style games on major consoles. Arcade classics like “Street Fighter” and “Mortal Kombat” have released…

If you have yet to experience Crystal Dynamic’s / Square Enix’s 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise (and you happen to own a PS4) you might want to wait just a while longer.  On January 31st a new and enhanced version of the title, dubbed the “Definitive Edition” is going to be hitting store shelves for the next-gen consoles (PS4 / Xbox ONE).  They’ve actually fundamentally altered / improved the Lara Croft character model, in fact.  Now, she’s at least 5 times more detailed and thanks to the performance capabilities of the new flagship consoles, every aspect of her…

It was only two days ago that Warhorse Studios posted a funding request on the website Kickstarter, a website that allows people to financially support creative themed projects. Within less than 48 hours the pledged goal of £300,000 had been exceed totalling more than £370k, with the total increasing every hour. Dan Vávra (Game Director and Lead Designer Dan) said: “While we were always confident in our vision for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, we never in our wildest dreams expected a response like this. We’re humbled by the outpouring of support, and admittedly a bit shell-shocked. We can’t thank our supporters…

Charm, style, and a winning gameplay formula – that’s essentially what makes Klei Entertainment’s “Don’t Starve” an absolutely smashing game.  Melding survival horror aspects with an open world platform, this game pull you in with its overhead perspective 3rd person design.  People who enjoy titles like Minecraft will likely find this game to be highly entertaining as a lot what you’re doing is essentially the same – foraging for things to help protect you from the forces of darkness (you know the drill).  However, as the title suggests, the point here isn’t to build up elaborate fortresses or castles, but…

If you’re the type of gamer with an interest in old-school leanings, “Pinball Arcade” is probably going to tickle your fancy in an entirely new way.  Rather than being a static, slightly generic title loosely based on the mechanics of pinball, this title is a complete simulator of sorts.  In other words, you’ll feel as though you’re in some establishment, pumping quarters into classic machines from every major, well-known maker. Moreover, since this is a (partially) free-to-play game via the PSN, PS4 owners can bask in the glory of this title’s incredible gameplay without spending anything.  Forgoing any additional expenditures…

As an annualized event, Las Vegas’ Consumer Electronics Show event routinely helps to introduce a cavalcade of contraptions from many of the world’s top companies.  This year, Sony and the PS4 had some serious competition to contend with, namely from Valve’s upcoming “Steam Machine” (a streaming console which connects directly with the online “Steam” service).  Moreover, there was no push back from Microsoft (via the Xbox ONE) as they decided to opt out of this year’s CES event. For all intents and purposes, the main focus of Sony’s efforts was on the emergence of the all-new “PlayStation Now” service.  This…

Recently, some rumors have surfaced which claim, or indicate that the next Getaway game (part III) will indeed be on the PlayStation 4.  Initially, it was said that the third installment would be making its way to the PS3, until it was put on hold indefinitely.  You can either see this as a good or bad thing (i.e. – if developer SCE London Studio actually takes the time to do it right, it could be absolutely brilliant).  Whether or not there’s any validity to these assertions, you have to admit – it would be sort of nice to see a…

You really have to hand it to Sony – they know what the fans want and they give it to them.   Rather than trying to play the role of an evil “Bond Villain” who toys with the desires and emotions of their constituency, Sony adopts a plan which allows them to effectively undercut the competition.   Moreover, they’ve done this while not sacrificing anything in terms of performance or features.  Say what you want, but the PS4’s recent sales figures suggest poetic justice. So, the question is, what is it about the PS4 (specifically) that’s made it into the darling of…

Let’s face it – in the world of consumer electronics, where there are two or more competing entities, the one who pulls out on top usually dominates (for the length of that particular “generation”).  Looking at the video game console market, this appears to be patently obvious, with one specific company like Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo more or less capturing the hearts and minds of gamers over the others.  This isn’t to say that each organization doesn’t have its own staunch following, or even that they’re still not selling millions of units, only that at the end of the day…

For die-hard sports gamers, particularly those with a love for football (or “Soccer”), this latest FIFA release is nothing short of spectacular, especially if you own a next generation console.  Yes, while the PS3 / Xbox 360 versions are certainly nothing to scoff at, it is the Xbox ONE and PlayStation 4 editions which offer the most tantalizing experience.  This is of course due to the fact that the more up-to-date adaptation actually features an entirely new engine (it’s called “Ignite”, btw).  So, just how good is it then, you’re probably wondering?  In short, it’s bloody fantastic! Of course before…

Once upon a time, video games based on (American) football were incredibly popular. Sports games were resigned to a rather limited set of genres and you could count on the fact that there would be at least one NFL-flavored game out there among packs of new releases. Of the many franchises which have brought gamers the sort of football action they crave, the Madden series is perhaps the most widely known and respected. Needless to say, Madden NFL 25 is certainly good enough to win the admiration of gamers – perhaps even those who don’t even care for football, per…

Sony fans generally aren’t surprised when it comes to being granted access to some new technology or service. After all, we are talking about an empire here which has built its house upon the steppes of incremental progress – with each new console (and game in a series) offering some sort of improvement in terms of capabilities, etc… Well, we might be on the cusp of a truly brave new world here with the recently announced “PlayStation Now” service. It would seem that even Sony fans will soon be shocked to find many of their favorite PS3 titles available for…
